Pirate bay adds 3d objects, immediately used to pirate warhammer

Quote

In a blog post The Pirate Bay said that physical objects ("physibles") represent "the next step in copying".

"We believe that things like three dimensional printers, scanners and such are just the first step," the website said. "We believe that in the nearby future you will print your spare sparts for your vehicles. You will download your sneakers within 20 years.

"The benefit to society is huge. No more shipping huge amount of products around the world. No more shipping the broken products back. No more child labour.

"We'll be able to print food for hungry people. We'll be able to share not only a recipe, but the full meal. We'll be able to actually copy that floppy, if we needed one."

And as soon as the Pirate Bay 'physibles' section launched, at least one company appeared to have been made a target.

A model listed by an anonymous user as a 'Tabletop Wargaming Robot Model' - but identifiable to the Huffington Post UK as the likeness of a Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine Dreadnought, which is a trademarked design of the UK-based Games Workshop Group PLC - was freely available and had already been downloaded by at least 23 people as of press time.

The model, an official version of which costs £28 from Games Workshop, has been previously listed on a 3D printing community website, but the plans were reportedly pulled after a takedown notice was issued.

And I looked, and behold, a pale horse. Its rider's name was Ocular-penetration, and Rape followed with him.

You still need the materials to make those sneakers... and then the doohickey that does the making. As to food, that's way more than a couple of decades from now. That's Star Trek level. Give it a century, at least.

Agreed with Ken. Even spare car parts... you'd have to get the metal/plastic (in my case plasteel) to your house/printer somehow and then manufacture it. I thought we already had a discussion on this?

Oh no! GW cant over charge people for plastic! OH NO! GW CANT SEE THE FUTURE! OH NO! PEOPLE ARE GONNA USE CARS NOW INSTEAD OF HORSES!

Seriously though, GWs prices a WAY to high for me to even come close to taking their side.
No mercy, no heart.

People did this long before these new 3d printers. I don't know if I can find it again, but I saw an old dark eldar raider built out of cardboard. After it was painted, it was virtually indistinguishable from a real one. Textures and all.

But seriously, Games Workshop needs to take a hint. Stop price gouging.

They're called "Jews Sweatshop" for a reason.

Yeah, I dunno about using some 3D printer (not even sure how that would work, especially in the context of that article. Sounds physically impossible to me), but cloning miniatures is definitely not new.

Casting your own miniatures is pretty easy. I've done it before, and the materials needed to cast multiple miniatures is still way cheaper than actually buying the miniatures. The only problem you'll run into it just trial and error. Figuring out the best way to make the molds and make them work. Other than that, in the long run, you're better off copying all your miniatures instead of buying the same ones 10 times.

I cant side with Games Workshop either. They price their minis based on what they do in the game, and not what it costs to actually manufacture them. You can buy a box of like, 10-20 plastic guys for 30 bucks, and then at the same time, head over to the HQ section for any army, and find 1 plastic hero character for 50-60 bucks, and hes less than a 4th of the total plastic used for the 10-20 plastic guys. Its ridiculous. Its really sad too, because more people would end up playing this game if they could afford it. Theres so many people that would love to get into this hobby, but its ridiculously out of their budget. Their target demographic is people aged 20-40 Id say (since a lot of table top gamers are older, grew up with it in the 80s, etc), but all the people age 20-30 get into it through the video games GW sanctions, and then those people get interested in the table top game, but find out they cant freaking afford it. They're really shooting themselves in the foot if you ask me.

What happens? Nothing happens! I never played TT with anything more than my plastic toy soldiers (gotta use what you can) and I sure as hell would not cry if GW bought a farm, especially seeing how W40k figurines can be duplicated/printed/ferzaubered with ease.

Hey guys, what if, like, someone could like...take...games Relic made...and not pay for them? Like, you know, COPYING them from one computer to another? Man, they'd bankrupt so hard their grandchildren would eat from the trashcans!

Pirates are always the minority.

Offtopic but - wasn't there some sort of pirates-oriented and state-recognised religion in Schweden?

"You, damned pig of a cop, are attacking religious minorities for pirating Space Marine?!?! For free religion!"

Yeah, Kopimism. If I've understood correctly, their faith revolves around AdMech-esque "Quest for Knowledge", and knowledge is gained only by sharing. That being, pirating.

Well, we have a pirate political party. Beyond that, I know of little public dedication.
